Donald Trump went on his favorite TV show Fox and Friends this morning to make his case against impeachment, and, oh boy, was it a doozy.
“Well, you know, I guess it says something like high crimes and all — I don’t know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job. I’ll tell you what, If I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash, I think everybody would be very poor,” Trump said.
Wow. So, high crimes? Eh, not a big deal to Donald Trump. Well, I think it was a big deal to our founding fathers who fought a war against tyranny. That is basically what he is arguing in favor of: Tyranny. He thinks because he is President, he should not be beholden to the law.
Republicans, are you seriously okay with this?
Because if Donald Trump finds out that he can actually get away with breaking the law, what do you think he will do? He will break even more laws. What if you become a victim of one of Donald Trump’s crimes?
You know what, I’ll put it another way for Republicans. If Donald Trump sets the precedent that the President is not subject to the laws of the United States, what happens if/when a Democrat is elected President? Are you okay with a Democratic President not being subject to any laws? Are you okay with a Democratic President being able to commit whatever crimes they want? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
This is the United States of America. We have a Constitution. We value the law. We should not throw it all away because of Donald Trump.
